AFCON 2023: Osimhen, Ahmed Musa, Omeruo make Nigeria's official 25-man squad

Nigeria Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has unveiled his 25-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) posted the squad on X on Friday, 29 December 2023.

Peseiro’s squad has three goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders, and eight forwards.

Stanley Nwabali who is based in South Africa, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Bright Osayi-Samuel made the final list.

Olorunleke Ojo is the only home-based player in the AFCON 2023-bound Eagles.

Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, Ahmed Musa, Victor Boniface, Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze are notable names selected.

Also on the list are Wilfred Ndidi, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Francis Uzoho, Zaidu Sanusi, Calvin Bassey, Kenneth Omeruo, Ademola Lookman, Umar Sadiq among others.

Meanwhile, the Eagles will fly out to United Arab Emirates (UAE) for camping before heading to Côte d’Ivoire for the AFCON.

They will face hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

Next year’s tournament will begin on January 13 to February 11 2024.

This is the second time Côte d’Ivoire will host the AFCON after first staging it in 1984.
