The Chairman Aswani Traders Association, Mr. Remigius Donatus Ngharamike, has described the Aswani Unity Football Tournament as a platform for upcoming footballers to showcase their talents and be exposed to opportunities in the international football space.
Speaking during the final of the Aswani Unity Football Tournament held at the market square, Ngharamike also said that the competition was aimed at entrenching peace and unity among the traders and also discovering players, who would challenge other Lagos market team in football matches.
He said: “In every competition there must be a winner and a loser and Ibia Soegbe FC has won due to their outstanding performance since the commencement of the competition. Although my team, Remco PG, came second, it was a huge success.”
He said the Aswani Unity Cup has brought peace, love and unity among the traders, adding that next year’s competition would be bigger and better in uniting the traders.
On his part, the Chairman, Organising Committee, Mr. Ukaigwe Emmanuel, affirmed that the aim of the event is to ensure that Aswani Traders Association remained a peaceful community, adding that the players’ peaceful conduct throughout the competition was key to its success.
Hyginus Eze Emenike, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ntu Metals Nigeria Limited, one of the sponsors of the tournament, commended the players for their efforts in the final, which he said met fans’ expectations.
He promised to support outstanding players to achieve their dreams of becoming professional footballers, adding that his company would organise a female version of the tournament in Aswani next year.
