Heritage, Phoenix Queens win Cohesion football tournament

Heritage Football Academy and FC Phoenix Queens emerged winners at the fifth edition of the Cohesion Football Tournament held in Lagos State.

The annual community tournament aimed at engaging talented grassroots children across different local government areas in Lagos and Ogun states took place at the Union Bank Stable, Surulere, Lagos.

42 selected male and female players across various football academies in Lagos between the ages of 9 and 13 participated in the two-day competition which started on Tuesday, December 19.

The organisers said the Cohesion Football Tournament not only focuses on the competition itself but also on developing the core values, knowledge and skills of the talented children, enabling them to realize their full potential as future leaders.

This year, the competition had 42 teams after incorporating 16 new male sides and marking a historic moment with the introduction of ten female teams.

In the male category, Heritage Football Academy from Abule Egba claimed the top spot, securing a prize of N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira).

Ablaze Football Academy from Ikorodu came second and won the sum of N300,000 while the third-placed Unstoppable FA from Makoko got N200,000.

Phoenix Queens from Orile won the inaugural female competition and walked away with the sum of N500,000.

The second-placed Wazbak International Queens got N300,000 while Unification Ladies pocketed N200,000 after finishing third.

The tournament’s most valuable player in the female category was Taiwo Ayomide of Ablaze FC who got a school scholarship prize of N100,000.

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, the convener of the competition, Damilare Obagbemi, said he was deeply delighted by the successes achieved by Heritage Football Academy and FC Phoenix Queens.

The tournament drew the presence of football enthusiasts and celebrities, including former Super Eagles player, Victor Agali and popular social media personality, Adebowale “Debo” Adedayo, known as “Mr Macaroni.”

The 2023 edition was made possible by the support of partners including: Premier Cool, Maltina, Twisco, Apollo, Gamr Africa, Firewood Jollof, Milo, Dios Dlite, Riquesa Africa, Twisco, Nigeria Info and Femi & The Gang.
