Mayorkun, Young Jonn thrill fans at SFFL Showtime Bowl

In what was Nigeria’s first-ever Showtime Bowl game, SFFL Showtime delivered an experience that matched any across the world.

The Spartans FC were crowned champions on Sunday in front of a teeming crowd of over 3,000 spectators at the conclusion of Season X of SFFL Showtime, the largest coed league in the world. Just like America’s popular Super Bowl, the Showtime Bowl was a convergence of sports, music, dance, food and family fun at the Showtime Bowl at the Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos.

The Showtime Bowl was a straight fight between Spartans FC and Lagos Rebels, and it marked the end of a riveting 11-week journey that started with ten teams. The Season finale delivered on its promise of incredible touchdowns, unforgettable plays, and the magic that happens when stars converge.

Thanks to its impenetrable defence, Spartans FC got a scintillating start. It never looked back, dominating both sides of the ball as the touchdown passes from their offensive players highlighted its 49-18 win over the Lagos Rebels. A shocking start to the game spelt a quick end for the Rebels, who trailed the Spartans by 23 points at halftime. While Spartans’ chemistry was in abundance, Lagos Rebels looked to be struggling and seemed overwhelmed by the importance of the finale.

The SFFL is a coed league accommodating professional athletes and enthusiastic beginners from both genders, thus fostering a spirit of inclusivity, a healthy rivalry, and a competitive spirit.

The Showtime Bowl gave the fans and attendees a ‘December to remember’ as guests got to experience an electrifying afternoon of music and energy with the best of flag football and entertainment taking centre stage. To add to the atmosphere, hit makers Mayorkun and Young Jonn serenaded fans and spectators with their chart-topping songs throughout the evening,

The League commissioner, Adebare Adejumo, expressed his delight at the season’s success, promising it will become bigger and better going forward.

“The SFFL Showtime experience provides a platform to bring Nigerians, sports fans, families, players, and other stakeholders together in an atmosphere of relaxation, excitement, and bonding, crucial for healthy living and nation-building,” he said. “This year’s finale success was beyond our wildest dreams, and we are confident it will become the most exciting sports event every year. We will build on this season’s success, so expect a much better season next year,” he added.
