Russia’s Batyrgaziev faces Cuba’s Alvarez in Dubai

Olympic champion, Russia’s Albert Batyrgaziev, will face three-time world champion, Cuba’s Lazaro Alvarez, at the IBA title fights’ Champions’ Night in Dubai tomorrow. The event presents the best athletes facing each other in pro-style boxing format.

In the main event, the Russian boxer, Batyrgaziev and three-time world champion from Cuba, Alvarez, will tangle in a first of a kind IBA professional title for 10 rounds in the 60kg weight category.

Also on the card is the bout between silver medallist of the 2023 IBA Men’s World Championships, Saidjamshid Jafarov from Uzbekistan, against Sewonrets Okazawa, a world champion from Japan, in 71kg division fight. Aliaksei Alfiorau from Belarus, a silver medallist at the IBA World Championships, challenges Loren Alfonso representing Azerbaijan, a world champion and Olympic bronze medallist in their 86kg contest.

Three other professional fights are scheduled for the same night. World and Olympic champion from Russia, Evgeny Tishchenko, meets Leon Harth from Germany in a WBA world championship bout in 12 rounds. Another world champion from Russia, Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, will meet German star, Artur Mann, in 10-round bout, while Mark Petrovskii fights Australia’s Lukas Browne in another scheduled 10-round contest.

“The fight card promises to deliver a great IBA Champions’ Night that will crown the year,’’ IBA Secretary General and CEO, Chris Roberts, said. “The first IBA title will be truly memorable as these boxers have challenged each other several times, and every boxer has a victory against the other. It is going to be an exciting night of fights and we will have five more brilliant challenges between strong rivals. I am looking forward to enjoying it together with boxing fans from around the world,” he stated.
