Court orders remand of man over possession of 5kg hemp

Justice Isaac Dipeolu of a Federal High Court, Lagos, has ordered a 36-year-old man, Jamiu Yusuf, to be remanded in custody over alleged illegal dealing in illicit drugs.

The defendant was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a two-count charge of possession and illegal deal in the restricted substance.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Femi Adebayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 26 at Buko’s compound in Ogbologbo, Seme, Lagos.

He said the defendant was in possession of five kilogrammes of substance suspected to be hemp which he was dealing in unlawfully.

He added that the offences contravened the provisions of the NDLEA Act, Law of the Federation 2004.

Dipeolu, while ordering the remand of the defendant, adjourned the case until Wednesday for judgement.

He ordered the defendant to be remanded in the custody of the NDLEA pending his verdict.
