The Federal Government of Nigeria has said it was considering a ban on university degrees issued by some other African countries such as Uganda, Kenya and Niger Republic.
This comes on the heels of the suspension of accreditation and evaluation of certificates from Togo and Benin Republic.
The Minister of Education, Tahir Mammal, made this known in an interview on a Channels Television programme: “Politics Today.”

Mamman said: “We are not going to stop at just Benin and Togo.
“We are going to extend the dragnet to countries like Uganda, Kenya, even Niger here, where such institutions have been set up.”
The ban on certificates from Togo and Benin Republic followed the outcome of an investigation by an undercover journalist who acquired a degree from a university in Benin Republic in six weeks.
Mamman said students who patronise such institutions are not victims but criminals, adding: “I have no sympathy for such people.
“Instead, they are part of the criminal chain that should be arrested.”
