Gunmen abduct school pupils in Ekiti State

An unspecified number of schoolchildren were reportedly abducted by gunmen in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Monday evening, Vanguard News is reporting.

Vanguard News said though the details were still very hazy, those abducted were pupils of a yet-to-be disclosed school.

It was learned that the pupils were being conveyed in their school bus and were at the Eporo-Ekiti boundary when the incident happened.

The number of pupils in the kidnappers’ den is yet unknown and the police are yet to confirm the incident.

The incident followed the killing of two traditional rulers in the state: Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, and Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola.

The monarchs were killed in an ambush by the armed men while returning from a meeting.

A third traditional ruler and Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, escaped the attack.

The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who condemned the dastardly act, ordered security operatives in the state to fish out the killers of the two traditional rulers and assured the people of the state that the government would spare nothing to get to the root of the matter.
