A man who recently returned from the United Kingdom has been counted as one of the victims of Tuesday’s explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
According to a video on social media posted by an eyewitness, Ayode Jajaye, the UK returnee, a son of one of the estate’s landlords was around where the explosion occurred.
Jajaye said “look at the guy that just died, he just came from the UK about a week ago. He’s son to a landlord in the estate.”
He added that “My conclusion is that the government should investigate this situation. The casualties are too many; look at the damage, we can’t just look away. There are so many collateral damages that have happened.”
Relatedly, a survivor of the incident named Adeleke, exclaimed that he lost his elder brother to the explosion.
Adeleke speaking to a local broadcasting station, Lagelu FM, said they were at the hotel in the area playing tennis before his brother named Oladipupo, sought to go out to attend to something.
He further said that the explosion caused a stir that sent a sharp object that gave him a deep cut in his stomach.

Meanwhile, the State governor, Seyi Makinde, reacting to the incident, stated that preliminary investigation by security agencies revealed that explosives devices stored by illegal miners caused the explosion that rocked the area.
The explosion which also affected a section of the governor’s office, Secretariat, Oyo House of Assembly, the residence of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, killed no fewer than 10 persons and scores hospitalised currently.
