Identity Falsification: Expert speaks on need for background checks in recruitment, collaboration 

The Society for Professional Background Screeners, an organisation with interest in upholding integrity in background screening, has called for comprehensive background checks in recruitment processes by statutory security agencies in the country.

Kola Olugbodi, Chairman of SPBS made the call, following recent viral news on identity falsification of job seekers.

Olugbodi’s urgent call was prompted by recent controversies surrounding identity falsification by some Nigerian youths during Army recruitment.

Recall that the news report exposed candidates falsely claiming their state of origin during the exercise.

Reacting further, SPBS boss described the incident as a clear case of a “security disaster”, asserting that the saga underscores the indispensable role of cutting-edge background checks in modern recruitment processes.

“The significance of comprehensive background checks cannot be overstated within the domain of security agencies and institutions. These checks transcend standard procedures as they demand meticulous scrutinising of candidates concerning identity verification, residential verification, State of origin, reference and guarantors checks, certification verification and criminal records, amongst many others. 

“These checks enable building and instilling confidence in the process and public” Olugbodi stressed.

He emphasised that thorough background checks are the backbone of risk mitigation, providing organisations with a robust strategy to identify potential threats. 

While encouraging public and private organisations to shun unwholesome recruitment processes, SPBS expressed its unwavering commitment to collaborating with governmental bodies and like-minded organisations at national and international levels.
