Supreme Court: Lagos Speaker, Obasa, congratulates Sanwo-Olu
The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his Supreme Court victory.
Obasa made this known in a message by Eromosele Ebhomele, his Chief Press Secretary, on Friday.
The Supreme Court earlier on Friday, delivered judgement, affirming Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Lagos state.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Labour Party candidate and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Dr Abdulazeez Adediran had approached the apex court to challenge Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the election.
The LP candidate urged the Supreme Court to hold that the March 18 election was marred with irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
He also added that the Lagos state Deputy Governor was not qualified to contest the election.
Similarly, Adediran filed 34 grounds of appeal, asking the apex court to overturn the verdict of the Lagos state Governorship Election Tribunal and the court of appeal.
Reacting, Obasa said the judgement was a further affirmation that the APC had the support of Lagos residents as reflected in the governorship and House of Assembly elections in 2023.
Obasa stressed: “With the election battle now put to rest by the Supreme Court, I join millions of our supporters to congratulate our governor and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
“It is a victory well deserved as the Supreme Court has now proven the Election Petition Tribunal and the Appeal Court right concerning their earlier rulings in favour of Sanwo-Olu.
“On behalf of my colleagues at the Lagos state house of assembly, I also congratulate our party, its leadership, members and supporters for all the efforts they put into the electioneering”.
The Speaker urged other contenders in the election to join hands with the current administration and support its policies to make Lagos greater.
