Victims count losses as burglars broke into commercial shops, steal valuables in Lagos + videos

In yet another brazen act of criminality, four shops in Oke street, in Ojokoro, under Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State fell victim to a robbery spree during the early hours of Saturday.

The daring burglars made away with valuables, including clothing materials, money and others.

Other items carted away were laptops, provisions, pharmaceuticals and foodstuff,  leaving the shop owners in a state of shock and disbelief.

A visit by some journalists indicated that the robbers gained access to the shops by removing sections of the roofing asbestos. 

The owners recounted their harrowing experiences, revealing the extent of the stolen items. One of the shop owners, who runs a cafe business, Ibrahim Akindoyin revealed that two laptops and four chargers were stolen, alongside several other PC devices and accessories.

Another owner, who manages a provision store, disclosed that a sum of N30,000 was taken along with provisions, including milk and beverages. 

The accounts by the victims indicated that burglars took advantage of a sold but abandoned building located behind the shops, using it as a means to gain access to the targeted establishments.

The audacious suspects struck once more in a separate shop, making away with N44,000 in cash, bottles containing groundnut oil and other items.

As of the time of filing this report, the victims were seen mobilising themselves to report the incidents to the Divisional police station.

The Eagle Online reported the case of a 19-year-old burglar, Michael Joseph who broke into a premises with a building still under construction, stole aluminium, but was sighted by the site Manager.

After raising the alarm, the burglar scaled two perimeter fences to escape into a third premises on the same Oke street. 

To the charging of the residents, Joseph plunged into a deep well, leaving the residents to call Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, whose personnel rescued him and was subsequently carried away by the security operatives of Ojokoro Divisional Police Station.

This wave of robberies in Ahmadiyya has become all too familiar, with local residents expressing their concerns over the lack of poor security measures in the enclave.

The community hopes that law enforcement agencies will intensify their efforts to apprehend the culprits and restore peace and security to Ahmadiyya.

When The Eagle Online spoke with Ojokoro DPO, CSP Victor Olotin, he acknowledged that the matter has been reported at his Division. 

The victims also confirmed that two officers from the station visited the scene and took record.

The DPO assured The Eagle Online that his men would step up patrol in the area.
