Woman, 35, steals N65,000, bags seven months jail term

A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Kabusa, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a 35-year-old woman, Cynthia James, to seven months in prison for stealing N65,000.
The Judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict after she had pleaded guilty to the offence of trespass and stealing.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N30,000 fine.
He also ordered James to pay a compensation of N65,000 or serve another three months jail term.
The Prosecutor, S.O. Osho, had earlier told the court that one Austin Chucks, of 20, Democracy Crescent, Gaduwa, Abuja, reported the matter at Garki Police Station.
Osho said that the convict picked Chucks’ wallet from his table while he was drinking at a beer joint and removed his Access Bank ATM card.

He further stated that the convict used the ATM card to withdraw the sum of N65,000 from the complainant’s account without his permission.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
