Ademola Lookman speaks after AFCON loss
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has assured Nigerians that the team will rise from their loss against Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Lookman gave this assurance on social media on Friday after returning to his club, Atalanta in Italy following his sterling performances for Nigeria at the tournament.
William Troost-Ekong put the Super Eagles 1-0 up, Ivory Coast equalised through Franck Kessie with an assist from Simon Adingra who also set up Sebastian Haller’s winning goal.
Lookman who made the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Best XI players of the 2023 AFCON alongside Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina has taken to X to say the Eagles will be back.
“We fell short but we gave everything and we will be back. Thank you for all the love and support, always grateful for the fans,” the former Everton, RB Leipzig and Leicester City star said.
“Congratulations to the hosts, Ivory Coast and Sebastian Haller, you are an inspiration to all. God bless Naija.”
Lookman was one of the Super Eagles players who raised the bar at the 2023 AFCON as his goals helped the Nigerian national team.
It was the most standout showing the Atalanta winger has recorded for Nigeria since he switched his allegiance from England in 2022.
