A 40-year-old woman, Sandra Edward, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna High Court for an alleged N12 million employment fraud.
The Kaduna Zonal Command, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged her before the court.
Edward was charged with fraud and obtaining money by false pretence.
The EFCC prosecutor, Precious Onyeneho, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between July and November 2023.
Onyeneho said the defendant, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N12 million from six job applicants under false pretence that she would provide employment for them.
The prosecution said the offence is contrary to the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Onyeneho urged the court to remand the defendant and fix a date for the commencement of trial.
But the defence counsel, Frank Julius, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail pending the hearing and determination of the case.
Justice Darius Khobo, thereafter, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with sureties in like sum.

Khobo said one of the sureties must be blood relations who must reside within the court jurisdiction.
The Judge further said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
Khobo adjourned the matter until March 13, 2024 for commencement of trial.
