The bodies of the late Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe; his wife, Chizoba; and their son, Chizi, on Friday arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State.
The leadership of Ikwerre Local Government Area, led by the council Chairman, Samuel Nwanosike, received them.
Saturday Sun gathered that the council leaders shut down business activities to pay their last respects to the late financial icon, his wife and son, who died in the ill-fated helicopter crash in California, United States of America on February 9, 2024.
Speaking at the airport, Nwanosike said he lacked words to describe their agony at the demise of their illustrious son, Herbert, his wife and son.
He lamented that Ikwerre people were pained at the incident, saying Wigwe through his landmark legacies impacted on the people and the council tremendously.
The council chairman wondered why Wigwe would die at the time when every family in Ikwerre LGA was looking forward to having its child study at Wigwe University, which is situated in Isiokpo, the council headquarters.
He said: “Ikwerre people are pained at the death of our son, a go-getter, an achiever, an entrepreneur.
“He has impacted on Ikwerre people, and humanity.”
According to the council chairman, the Ikwerre LGA would immortalise Wigwe because of his legacies, adding that the university, which is expected to take off in September 2024, is a great legacy of the renowned financial strategist.
Meanwhile, at the council headquarters, Isiokpo, the caskets of the Wigwes, which were conveyed in three ambulances, amidst motorcades, were honoured with five canon gunshots, signifying pedigree.
On Friday evening, dignitaries, guests, well-wishers, family and friends of the Wigwes converged at Omueke in Isiokpo community for a Christian wake for them.

Among those present to pay their last respects ahead of the burial ceremony slated for Saturday are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Governor of Rivers State, Siminalyi Fubara; Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi; and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State in the same poll, Tonye Cole.
