Delta Babes eye upset against Delta Queens in FA Cup final

Newcomers, Delta Babes FC of Warri, have vowed to cause an upset this afternoon by beating title holder, Delta Queens FC of Asaba in the final of the State FA Cup. The match will hold at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Today’s showdown will begin at 1pm with the highly motivated Delta Babes FC facing Delta Queens, while the encounter between Warri Wolves FC and Delta Marines FC will take place at 4 pm. The winners will get a prize of N1.5 million.

To get to the final, the Warri-based Delta Babes defeated Delta Marine FC 8-7 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes. Delta Babes had earlier handed 8-0 defeat to Mighty Wonders in this year’s FA Cup competition.

Some players and officials of Delta Babes FC, who spoke with The Guardian, yesterday, vowed to upset Delta Queens in front of the capacity crowd in Asaba this afternoon.

It was learnt that the State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori boasted the morale of Delta Babes FC with a N1million gift a few days ago for making it to the final with a promise to give them more inceptives if they win today’s FA Cup final.

An official of the club hinted yesterday that Delta Babes FC have been enjoying morale and financial benefits from Osubi-based businessman, Onoriode Oborevwori, a former player of Frangers FC of Warri since the formation of the club.

“Onoriode has been the one accommodating us in his house at Osubi, and he caters for most of our financial needs. He bought a new set of jersey for us a few days ago. That was aside the financial assistance he rendered to us from time to time. We want to win this FA Cup to show appreciation to him,” the official said.

Onoriode Oborevwore is being tipped as the new chairman of Delta State Sports Commission because of his strong financial base as a hotelier and great passion for sports.
