Edun frustrating FG’s fight against poverty, South West group tells Tinubu

The Southwest Youth Advocacy Network has accused the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, of frustrating the federal government’s fight against poverty.

The group said this in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Seun Adeaanu.

The group asked President Bola Tinubu to take action against the recent controversial decisions made by Edun.

The group expressed deep concern over the proposed relocation of the National Social Investment Programmes and other actions taken by the minister as reported by The Cable.

The group said: “The decision to transfer the NSIP from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Economy is unacceptable and warrants appropriate action.

This move, coming at a time when the government is actively addressing economic challenges and working to alleviate the hardship faced by citizens, is insensitive.”

The group stated that the action is at variance with the directives of President Tinubu that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation should handle such tasks.

According to the group, moving the NSIP to the Ministry of Finance will frustrate the ongoing efforts to address the economic needs of Nigerians.

It added: “Furthermore, the Southwest Youth Advocacy Network is troubled by reports suggesting that Mr. Edun is withholding funds approved and released by the Federal Government for the 2024 Hajj Commission.

The delay in disbursing these funds and rising Hajj fares are causing distress to intending pilgrims.
