Lagos hotel cashier docked for allegedly stealing N6.7m

The police in Lagos State on Tuesday arraigned a 43-year-old hotel cashier, Tiamiyu Ayanbode, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s N6.7 million.

The defendant, who resides in Agege, Lagos State, was charged by the Lagos State Police Command with theft.

Ayanbode pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Felicia Okwori, told the court that the offence was committed between October 2023 and January at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

The prosecutor said that when the company’s account was audited, it was discovered that N6,710,000 was missing.

The prosecutor said the defendant, who is the one in charge, could not account for it.

The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, O. O Fagbohun, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Fagbohun adjourned the case until April 12 for mention.
