In a strategic move to avert disaster, the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority has provided rescue support for an incident involving a tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, that overturned and spilled its contents at Okebadan, Agugu, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Executive Chairman of the agency, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), responded promptly alongside other agencies.
They included the Oyo State Fire Service, Amotekun operatives, Nigeria Police Force, and Oyo State Security Network Agency.
Adekoya said the incident was a result of a faulty turntable.
According to him, there was no loss of life, but the situation, however, caused traffic gridlock on the road.
He enjoined members of the public to maintain caution while driving on roads, especially when carrying heavy loads.
“Road users are advised to exercise patience during this period and cooperate with traffic officers who are working to get the situation under control,” he added.

While commending other sister agencies and individuals who have assisted in responding to the incident and managing the situation, the OYRTMA boss reiterated the agencies’ commitment to ensuring road safety for all road users in the state.
Meanwhile, the location has been cordoned off, while the content has been transloaded to another tanker.
