The Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) has pledged to collaborate with other stakeholders on regional and global platforms in addressing energy challenges and advancing their common goals.
Speaking on the theme ‘Building an All-Round Sustainable Future’, at a three-day yearly membership meeting in Abuja, Chairperson, WEOG 2024 yearly membership meeting, Nwando Awiaka, stressed that the theme of the event underscores their commitment to sustainability, innovation and progress, as well as to closing the energy and gender gaps.
Noting that their contribution extends beyond the boundaries of the country, she urged women to become a strong voice to reckon with in the male-dominated industry.
The keynote speaker and chief executive officer of PE Energy, Dr Daero Akobo, urged the women to embrace process and technology, emphasising the problems they are meant to solve in the energy sector.
According to him, understanding the power of WEOG and applying it to business development will lead to profit and economic sustainability.
The National President of WEOG, Dr Oladunni Owo, underscored the group’s impact in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for the sector.
She submitted that they are more committed to uniting industry professionals in their shared mission to champion diversity and empower women in the energy industry.
Similarly, Funmilayo Kadiri of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), emphasised the importance of empowerment, mentorship and advocacy for gender equality.
