Why Partey, Inaki Williams, Painstil will miss Nigeria vs Ghana friendly

Ghana has revealed that the trio of Thomas Partey, Joseph Painstil and Inaki Williams will miss the Black Stars’ international friendly match against Nigeria scheduled for Friday, March 22.

Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, named his 26-man squad for this month’s international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda but Partey, Williams, and Painstil were missing.

The Black Stars in a post on its X handle on Monday revealed the reasons for the omission of the three players from Ghana’s squad to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Uganda.

“Joseph Painstil: As a result of his move to the United States (US), there are some further immigration documentation procedures he must embark upon which is why he is unable to travel outside the United States until the process is completed,” the post read.

“Thomas Partey: Asked to be excused from the game to gain full fitness following recent injuries.

“Inaki Williams: Pulled out the games to have some rest and fully recover from recent injury setbacks.”

The friendly games scheduled for Marrakech, Morocco will mark the beginning of the new era under Addo.

The Super Eagles will go all out to avenge their 2022 World Cup qualification disappointment when they meet the Black Stars.

Ghana stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the Mundial which took place in Qatar as they edged their fellow West African rival on away goal rule after both countries played out a 1-1 draw on aggregate.
