Boxing, MMA Hall of Fame partners Abuja continental for sports development

In a significant move to promote sports and youth empowerment across Nigeria, the Boxing and MMA Hall of Fame has partnered with Abuja Continental Hotel to host the forthcoming National Boxing and MMA Amateur Championship.

This strategic collaboration aims to elevate the profile of amateur boxing and mixed martial arts throughout the nation.

According to the Minister of Finance and noted sports philanthropist, Mr. Wale Edun, this initiative comes as part of a broader effort to nurture and showcase homegrown talent in the competitive sports arena.

The Abuja Continental will serve as the official venue for this high-profile championship series, which kicks off tomorrow.

The partnership was unveiled against a backdrop of recent sporting successes, with Nigeria’s athletes performing impressively at the African Games in Ghana.

The Group General Manager of Continental Hotel Group, Karl Hala, said, “our involvement in the National Boxing and MMA Amateur Championship is driven by our commitment to foster young talent and reinforce Abuja’s standing as a central hub for amateur boxing and MMA.”

He said the championship will feature promising athletes from across nine states, including Kwara, Kogi, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Hala said the grand finale, scheduled for later this year, aims to crown the inaugural set of national amateur champions, setting a new benchmark in the national sports landscape.

The General Secretary of the Boxing and MMA Hall of Fame, Kehinde Soyanwo, highlighted the significance of this partnership.

“Following our athletes’ stellar performance and victory at the African Games, this partnership marks a historic milestone for us. It not only celebrates but also builds upon our recent successes, propelling Nigerian boxing and MMA to new heights,” he said

Echoing this sentiment, the General Manager of Abuja Continental, Javier Sanchez, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential.

He said by aligning with the Boxing and MMA Hall of Fame, they are not just hosting a tournament but are also helping to sculpt the future of Nigerian sports.

“Our commitment is to provide an exceptional venue and support system for these athletes, paving the way for their success on both national and international stages,” he said.

He said as the country prepares for the upcoming championships, this partnership stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in promoting sports excellence and empowering the youth of Nigeria.
