Breaking: Immigration places ex-Gov. Bello on Watch List

The Nigeria Immigration Service has placed a former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on its Watch List.

This was contained in a memo signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, dated April 18, 2024.

According to the memo, Bello was placed on the Watch List because he is standing trial before a Federal High Court.

The memo was addressed to the Director-General, Department of State Services, Abuja; Inspector-General, Nigeria Police Force, Abuja; Director-General. National Intelligence Agency, Abuja; ACG in charge of PRS; all Zonal Coordinators and Control Posts of the NIS.

Titled: Watch-Listing of Person,” Umar wrote in the memo: “I am directed to inform you that the above named person has been placed on watch list.

“Suffice to mention that the subject is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja fe Conspiracy, Breach of Trust and Money Laundering vide letter Ref, CR; 3000/EFCC/LS/EGCS.1/TE/V 1/279 dated 18th April 2024, if seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action.”

The Eagle Online recalls that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday declared Bello wanted.

The EFCC said it was in connection with an alleged N80.2 billion fraud that it noted was perpetrated less than a month after Bello’s assumption of office in 2015.
