The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, Isiaka Olagunju, says the commission is promptly attending to the feedback on the late arrival of election materials across polling units in the state.
The Chairman of the electoral agency spoke with newsmen at the commission’s headquarters on Saturday.
He made the remark shortly after observing the voting exercise across the Ibadan metropolis. He, however, adjudged the election peaceful.
He noted that the essence of going around was to assess the level of success and safety of the election process.
“We are glad that everywhere is calm.
“There is no violence and everywhere was peaceful. We received reports concerning the late arrival of election materials and we are addressing them promptly.
“What I have learnt about election management is that in times like this, there will be truth, half-truth, deception and distraction in feedback coming in but we are attending to them all.
“I still maintain my standard that the votes of the people will count, as we are working round the clock to ensure the success of the election process,” he said.
Attesting to the violence-free nature of the election, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebola Hamza, says no violence has been recorded in the ongoing local government election.
Hamzat said this after monitoring the conduct of the election in the company of other security agencies and the OYSIEC chairman.
He said the command had earlier deployed enough security personnel to ensure peaceful conduct of the exercise before, during and after the exercise.
“In the Ibadan metropolis, everything is going on peacefully so far.
“In the hinterland, we have people there and everything is working well, but I cannot say very okay because we have little complaints, which is normal in an election,” he said.
The CP said the few complaints received from other parts of the state had, however, been resolved.
Assuring the electorates of their safety, he urged them to massively exercise their civil rights by coming out to elect the people to govern them.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the CP was accompanied by heads of security agencies, namely, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Others are heads of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
