Anambra State Governor, Chukwuka Soludo, has expressed the determination of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to go into an alliance with any interested political party.
Speaking at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party on Friday in Abuja, the governor stated that APGA is growing stronger, adding that it is poised, more than ever, to provide good leadership in the country .
The NEC meeting was the first to be held by the party since the Supreme Court affirmation of Sly Ezeokenwa as the party’s National Chairman.
Soludo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his exemplary leadership, saying that for the first time, APGA is having a minister in the federal cabinet in the person of Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu.
He said: “It is on record that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APGA has its first ever minister in the person of our own Ambassador Bianca. Please extend our unreserved appreciation to Mr. President.
Tell him that we say in APGA that he is a true leader; and the mark of a leader is a person or a leader that understands that the moment you cross the threshold of election, you become the president of the entire country, not just your political party. The President has demonstrated that; we commend him and APGA will support him to ensure that our country works.”
The governor commended the judiciary for always rising up to the occasion to salvage the nation’s democracy.
Soludo, who reflected on the tortuous leadership crisis and litigations the party has been through over the years, added: “For me, all through this while, not one second did I have doubt that after all the madness, reason will prevail and the judiciary will rise up to their feet.
And so for me, it is one moment to celebrate the fact that in Nigeria, no matter what we may think about the justice system, imperfect as it is, but on the whole, when the chips are down, the judiciary always rises up to the occasion to do justice.
“And so for me, on this occasion, it is more to celebrate the justices of Nigeria. Justices at the High Court, Justices at the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court for rising up and saying enough is enough.
“For me, more than anything, it’s for us to say to the world that APGA is alive; APGA is strong; APGA is rising. That’s why we have come together to send that message today. APGA is alive, APGA is strong, APGA is rising”.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue to be upright in discharging its constitutional and statutory responsibilities.
The governor urged members of the party to go back to their communities and register new members, stressing that they should “unite to build the new Nigerian of our dream.”
In attendance at the meeting were the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu; Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South; and Alex Ikwueche, the member representing Aba North in the House of Representatives, among others.
Earlier, Ezeokenwa commended the Supreme Court for delivering a judgment that will go down in history as one of the most erudite judgments ever delivered, especially as it regards political party administration.
He stated that under his leadership, APGA became the first political party to launch total digitisation of its membership database.
“That exercise was launched by no other person than the national leader of our great party, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo,” he noted.
“Governor Soludo, the national leader of our party believes strongly that the future of our country is a total embrace of technology and we keyed into that, Today in Anambra State, we are building an ICT centre where young people, especially members of our party, can go in and have digital training. Any moment from now we are going to commission that centre. We are equally going to launch the APGA Foundation.”
The chairman expressed his determination to make APGA a truly progressive movement in Nigeria and one of the most sought-after parties in the country.
