With seven gold, four silver and one bronze medals, Nigeria sits atop the table at the ongoing African Senior Weightlifting Championship, in Mauritius.
Among the medallists are Rafiatu Lawal (59kg) and Didih Onome (55kg), who won three gold medals each in their respective weight categories. Lawal, a 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, dominated the 59kg event with confidence and grace.
Another athlete, Edidiong Joseph captured one gold and two silver medals in the 73kg category, while Tuesday Emmanuel added two silver medals and one bronze to Nigeria’s tally.
Two other medal prospects, Omolola Matthew and Sarah Ovayioza, are yet to conclude their categories, with Ovayioza entering the fray today.
