Awoniyi: It’s English Premier League or nothing for now

Taiwo Awoniyi has made clear his commitment to Nottingham Forest amid question marks over his future at the City Ground, reports nothinghampost.com. The 27-year-old striker has two years left on his contract with the Reds having joined the club upon their promotion to the Premier League from Union Berlin, in 2022, on a five-year deal.

But he has only started three times for the Reds in the Premier League this season, with 19-goal Chris Wood being Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-choice marksman.

A new striker will be on Forest’s shopping list in the summer transfer window too, which could push Awoniyi further down the pecking order and a return to Union Berlin has been mooted.

But speaking to Humble Boots, Awoniyi made it clear the Premier League is the only place he wants to play.

“For me, it’s always the Premier League,” he said. “My family, everyone knows. My agent, everyone knows it’s always the Premier League. I know when I will tell myself, ‘Thank you, Premier League’. So, I still have two more years with Nottingham Forest. Thank God for that.

“Maybe after the two years if I don’t have any other option and I don’t have any other club then I can pack my bags, but so far, so good, I’m still here two more years.”
