The 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Eight Promotion Play-Offs officially kick off today across two venues in Delta State — the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba and the Jay Jay Okocha Stadium in Ogwashi-Ukwu.
Speaking during the draw ceremony held at the VIP hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, the NNL Board Chairman, George Aluo, assured stakeholders of a well-organised and transparent competition.
Aluo emphasised that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure the success of the prestigious tournament. He also pledged that match officiating would be fair and impartial throughout the weeklong event.
“I want to congratulate all the clubs that qualified from Conferences A, B, C, and D. It’s a major achievement, I also want to commend the performance of Ikorodu FC last season, and I’m pleased that none of the clubs promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) have returned to the NNL. That shows progress,” he said.
Aluo also extended his appreciation to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for its confidence in the current NNL Board and to the Delta State Government for accepting to host the competition.
“The Super Eight is the first official assignment of my second tenure, and I am confident it will reflect the repositioning of the NNL under our leadership,” he added.
Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, Godwin Adedo, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta State Sports Commission for their continued investment in sports development and for backing the state’s hosting of the tournament.
The draw ceremony was attended by NNL board members, representatives of the NFF, match officials, and delegates from the eight competing clubs: Barau FC, Yobe Desert Stars FC, Wikki Tourists FC, Doma United FC, Crown FC, Kun Khalifat FC, Osun United FC, and Warri Wolves FC.
The competition, which runs for one week, will culminate next Saturday with the final match to determine the champions of this season’s Super Eight League and the teams to be promoted to the NPFL.
