Gov. Alia pays tribute to Bisi Akande at 87

The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Friday paid glowing tribute to former Osun State governor and first national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, as he marked his 87th birthday.
In a statement on Friday, he said Akande stands tall as one of the finest products of Nigeria’s progressive political tradition.
In the statement he personally signed, Alia said: “His life of service, discipline, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals has left an indelible mark on our nation’s political evolution.
“Inspired by the political philosophy and ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Baba Akande’s journey from the private sector into public service was driven by a deep sense of duty and patriotism.
“He consistently demonstrated competence, integrity, and courage of conviction wherever he served.
“As the Interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Akande played a historic role in laying the foundation of a political platform that changed Nigeria’s democratic trajectory in 2015.
“His foresight, steadiness, and principled leadership helped unite diverse political interests under a shared progressive vision.
“Baba Akande remains a moral compass, mentor, and reference point for integrity, honesty, and steadfast belief in values that strengthen nationhood.
“At 87, Baba continues to inspire generations with his clarity of thought, moral strength, and commitment to democracy, social justice, and good governance,” Alia stated.
He added: “On behalf of the government and the good people of Benue State, I celebrate Chief Bisi Akande for his immense contributions to our country, our party, and the progressive movement.
“It is my fervent prayers that God grants him continued good health, strength, and peace as he marks this remarkable milestone.”
