JUST IN: Tinubu falls during welcome ceremony in Turkey

President Bola Tinubu briefly lost his footing on Tuesday during an official reception in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The incident happened as Tinubu walked alongside Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish president, at the welcome ceremony.
Officials immediately moved in to support Tinubu, who regained his balance moments later and continued with the event.
The Nigerian president had arrived at the Turkish presidential palace in a black limousine.
Upon his arrival, the military band played Nigeria’s national anthem, followed by the Turkish national anthem.
During the anthem, President Erdogan used his hands to adjust Tinubu’s stance, ensuring he properly faced the band.
Tinubu departed Abuja on Monday to commence the state visit to Turkey.
Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, said the visit aims to strengthen “existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation”.
Onanuga added that finance, communication, trade, and investment would be key topics in political and diplomatic discussions during the visit.
The state visit underscores the administration’s focus on deepening bilateral ties with strategic international partners.
