Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State Governor has asked the federal high court in Abuja to restrain anti-corruption and security agencies from taking steps to freeze his bank accounts or seize his property.
In the suit filed by lawyer Oluwole Iyamu, El-Rufai requested an interim injunction to maintain the status quo pending the hearing and determination of his application.
He said that his severance pay, earned at the end of his tenure between 2015 and 2023, was lawful and not linked to any illegal activity.
El-Rufai is seeking declarations that his properties and bank accounts in Zenith Bank, GTB, and Access Bank were lawfully acquired and that any attempt by the respondents to seize them without credible evidence would violate his constitutional rights.
He also requested N1 billion in damages and N100 million for legal costs, citing potential psychological trauma, reputational harm, and abuse of power by the agencies.
According to the ex-governor, he has never been convicted of any criminal offence and has challenged anyone to provide evidence of wrongdoing, which remains unanswered.
He stressed that he is willing to cooperate with lawful investigations conducted under due process.
“The applicant has come to this court with clean hands, has nothing to hide and is ready and willing to cooperate with any lawful investigation conducted in accordance with due process,” he added.
