The Labour Party in Oyo State has dismissed claims of internal crisis and expressed confidence in winning the 2027 general elections.
Fatai Ojetunde, Oyo State General Secretary told newsmen on Tuesday that the party remains united at the state level, despite factional disputes at the national level.
According to Ojetunde, issues involving Nenadi or Aburi factions at the national level are expected to be resolved within the next three to four weeks.
He confirmed that Rasheed Atayese remains the state Chairman and noted that party congresses at ward, local government, and state levels were successfully conducted in December 2025.
Ojetunde welcomed defectors who align with the party’s ideology but insisted that those unwilling to abide by its principles would not be accepted. “Once they can align with our ideology, we will allow them, but if not, we will not allow them,” he said.
The general secretary also highlighted the party’s role as a constructive opposition.
“The government of Oyo State has not been doing what is expected. An opposition party should advise the ruling party, not confront it, because citizens bear the brunt if confrontation is employed,” Ojetunde added.
