The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Ibrahim Wushishi, NECO registrar, announced the results on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, noting that candidates were examined in 16 subjects.
Wushishi said a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent).
He added that 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the examination, including 50,785 males (53.36 per cent) and 44,375 females (46.63 per cent).
According to Wushishi, 73,167 candidates obtained credit passes and above, representing 78.32 per cent of 93,425 students.
He revealed that out of 93,330 candidates who wrote mathematics, 85,256 (91.35 per cent) scored credit passes and above.
Wushishi said 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English language and Mathematics.
He added that 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 per cent, secured five credits and above, irrespective of the two compulsory subjects.
The NECO registrar disclosed that 9,016 candidates were sanctioned for examination malpractice, recording a 2,856 increase compared with 2024.
He also announced that five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo were blacklisted for allegedly aiding examination malpractice.
Wushishi further revealed that four examination centres in Niger, Yobe, and Kano were recommended for de-recognition due to “involvement in mass malpractice”.
He explained that the examination provides candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions, both within and outside Nigeria, an opportunity to improve their academic qualifications.
Wushishi described the result as “another milestone” in NECO’s mandate to provide credible assessments for Nigerian students.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support for the education sector.
The NECO registrar added that the body is owed less than N2 billion by the 36 states.
The 2025 SSCE was conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025, with marking taking place from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
