Opposition members of the house of representatives on Tuesday walked out of plenary over the approval of manual collation of election results as a backup in the Electoral Act amendment bill.
The lawmakers exited the chamber after their proposal to make electronic transmission of results mandatory — without manual collation serving as a fallback in cases of technological failure — was rejected.
The controversial clause reportedly permits the use of manual collation where electronic transmission fails.
