The office of the national security adviser (ONSA) has asked Nasir El-Rufai to provide evidence to the Department of State Services (DSS) over his allegation of Thallium Sulphate importation.
The development followed a letter by the former Kaduna governor seeking clarification on the alleged procurement of the poisonous chemical.
According to Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser, the allegation has been formally referred to the DSS for a comprehensive investigation.
Writing through OM Adesuyi, brigadier-general at the ONSA, the office stated: “ONSA has neither procured nor initiated any process for the purchase of such material, and has no intention of doing so.”
The statement added that El-Rufai and other parties with relevant information “will be duly invited by the DSS to provide any evidence that may assist in an in-depth investigation, establishing the facts and ensuring due diligence.”
Meanwhile, Temitope Ajayi, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, has also denied the allegation and challenged El-Rufai to release the NSA’s reply to his letter.
According to Ajayi, the claim was an attempt to create fear and disaffection.
