Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has urged residents and key stakeholders in Lagos State to cooperate with the new Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, following a change in leadership at the state command.
Fatai, who previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, has been appointed the 42nd Commissioner of Police for Lagos State. He takes over from Jimoh, who has been redeployed to head the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos.
Jimoh, who assumed duty in February 2025, handed over after just over a year in office. During the transition, he expressed confidence in Fatai’s competence and called on Lagosians to extend their full support to the new police boss.
“I am confident in his ability to lead. I urge all stakeholders to work closely with him as he assumes this responsibility,” Jimoh said.
Reflecting on his tenure, Jimoh noted that security across the state improved significantly, attributing part of the success to the Lagos State Government’s support, particularly in enhancing the welfare of police personnel. He highlighted increased allowances for officers, describing the welfare structure in the Lagos Command as one of the best in the country.
In his acceptance remarks, Fatai pledged to consolidate on existing achievements and further strengthen security across Lagos. He emphasised the importance of a safe environment in driving economic growth and boosting public confidence.
According to him, the command under his leadership will adopt proactive, intelligence-driven, and technology-based policing strategies, while also deepening community engagement.
“Criminals will have no hiding place in Lagos. We will build stronger relationships with residents and ensure they remain active partners in maintaining security,” he said.
Fatai also underscored the role of the media in promoting accurate and timely information, while identifying youth engagement as a critical tool for crime prevention and social stability.
He assured that the command would sustain collaboration with other security agencies, including the military, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, and Nigeria Immigration Service, to improve intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.
Addressing officers of the command, the new CP warned against misconduct, stressing that discipline, professionalism, and integrity would be strictly enforced. He maintained a zero-tolerance stance on police brutality and unethical behaviour.
Fatai further assured personnel of improved welfare, training, and motivation to enhance their performance.
Outlining his priorities, he listed crime reduction, tackling cultism and violent offences, improving traffic discipline, strengthening visibility policing, and restoring peace in troubled areas as key focus areas.
He encouraged residents to report complaints or rights violations through the Complaint Response Unit via dedicated phone and WhatsApp lines.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has approved the establishment of seven additional police divisions in Lagos State to boost security presence, with areas such as Lekki Phase I and Lekki Phase II expected to benefit from the expansion.
