Gunmen have ambushed security forces in Giro Masa community, Shanga LGA of Kebbi State, killing nine soldiers and one police officer, with multiple civilians also reported dead.
Governor Nasir Idris confirmed the attack on Wednesday after visiting the victims at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin Kebbi. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, also involved the burning of two military gun trucks by the attackers.
“This is a tragic loss. These soldiers are the ones safeguarding Kebbi residents, yet they fell victim to such an attack. The Kebbi State Government remains resolute in protecting the lives of its citizens,” Governor Idris said.
He prayed for the deceased and pledged his administration’s continued commitment to strengthening security, visiting the site for an on-the-spot assessment.
