The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba.
The attack, which occurred around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, saw suspected gunmen storm the community and open fire on residents, leaving many feared dead and several others injured.
Panic as Gunmen Strike
Residents were thrown into chaos as gunshots rang out across the area, forcing many to flee for safety while the assailants unleashed violence.
Although the exact casualty figure remains unclear, sources within the community confirmed multiple deaths and injuries.
Government Reacts
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state government described the incident as a tragic security breach.
The curfew, which took effect from midnight on March 29, 2026, will remain in force until April 1, 2026.
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked, and assured residents that efforts were underway to restore order.
“All necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement read.

Authorities said security agencies have been deployed to the area to maintain peace and track down those responsible.
