Ekiti 2026: INEC Recognises Wole Oluyede as PDP Governorship Flagbearer

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially listed Wole Oluyede as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ekiti State governorship election slated for June 20, 2026.

INEC also confirmed Ogunsakin Ayodeji as the party’s running mate.

Oluyede’s inclusion follows an earlier omission from the commission’s January list of candidates. The development comes after a ruling by the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, which on March 12 directed INEC to recognise him as the PDP’s standard-bearer.

In a unanimous judgment, the three-member panel led by Peter Chudi Obiorah overturned a previous decision of the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti that had nullified the party’s primary election.

The appellate court held that the PDP primary election complied with both the party’s constitution and provisions of the Electoral Act.

Oluyede, a medical practitioner, clinched the PDP ticket in November after securing 279 votes, defeating his closest contender, Funso Ayeni, who polled 239 votes in the exercise conducted by the party’s National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki.
