Security has been tightened in Adamawa State ahead of the visit of Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, scheduled for Monday.
The Adamawa State Police Command in a state signed by the command spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje says the operation is intelligence-led and coordinated across the state to ensure a smooth and incident-free visit.
Vice President Shettima is expected to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at an event where APC flags will be presented to Governor Umaru Fintiri following his defection to the ruling party.
Police Commissioner Dankombo Morris says officers have been deployed across key infrastructure, major transport routes, and public venues expected to host activities during the visit.
Senior officers, including area commanders and heads of tactical units, have been briefed, with authorities emphasizing proactive policing and inter-agency collaboration.
Security measures include heightened surveillance by the State Intelligence Bureau, reinforced presence at the airport, and highway patrols along major entry and exit routes, particularly in the state capital, Yola.
Explosive ordnance teams, equipped with advanced detection technology, have also been deployed to conduct sweeps and secure venues ahead of the visit.
The police say they are working closely with other agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Traffic advisories are already in place, with motorists warned to expect diversions and increased security presence on major roads.
Residents are being urged to cooperate with security personnel, as authorities assure the public of their commitment to safety before, during, and after the vice president’s visit.
The visit comes amid heightened security awareness at major political events across the country.
