Hafsat Yusuf, a woman who gave birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital, has died hours after delivery.
Salisu Nafiu, her husband confirmed the development on Thursday, saying she passed away at about 1:00 a.m. at the hospital.
He, however, noted that all five babies three boys and two girls are alive and receiving medical care.
“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” he said.
K/Na’isa added that the deceased had since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro.
“We are appealing to the public to support the babies with milk and other essential items,” he said.
The quintuplets were delivered via Caesarean section at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, marking the woman’s ninth childbirth.
Nafiu, a tricycle rider, had earlier expressed gratitude for the successful delivery, stating that medical personnel were giving the newborns special attention to ensure their wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the Kano state ministry of health has announced that the state government will take full responsibility for the healthcare of the quintuplets.
The ministry said the intervention forms part of efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare and reduce mortality rates in the state.
