Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transport support allowance for workers in Oyo State as part of measures to ease the burden of rising fuel costs.
The governor announced the intervention during the Youth Empowerment Agribusiness Programme (YEAP) SAFER Disbursement Ceremony and Stakeholders’ Engagement held at the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub.
According to Makinde, the flat-rate palliative will be extended to all state workers, including those in the local government system, and will run for an initial period of three months starting from April 2026.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at cushioning the impact of the current economic hardship, particularly the recent increase in petrol prices, which has driven up transportation costs and affected workers’ productivity and overall living standards.
Makinde noted that the state government would continue to monitor economic conditions and may extend the support if necessary, depending on prevailing realities.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of workers through people-oriented policies designed to provide immediate relief while fostering long-term economic stability and inclusive growth.
