The Rivers State House of Assembly has acknowledged the receipt of a fresh list of commissioner nominees from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Lawmakers have invited nine nominees for screening and possible confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.
The invitation was issued through a special government notice dated March 3. It was signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi. The notice asked the nominees to present their documents for verification.
This move follows the recent political realignment in the state legislature after the Supreme Court affirmed Martin Amaewhule as the authentic Speaker of the House.
The governor had earlier dissolved his cabinet, including eight commissioners and all Special Advisers, in compliance with the judgment and ongoing political developments.
According to the announcement, the Assembly directed the nominees to submit multiple copies of their credentials and tax records for scrutiny.
The statement read, “The Rivers State House of Assembly hereby invites nominees for appointment as commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council to submit forty (40) sets of their curriculum vitae, photocopies of credentials and evidence of compliance with tax obligations.
“The nominees are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mr Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Mr Lekue Kenneth, Otonye Amachree and Amairigha Edward Hart.
“All documents should be forwarded to the office of the Clerk of the House at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters.”
None of the commissioners recently relieved of their duties appeared on the new list submitted to lawmakers.
The development signals a gradual return to normal governance after months of tension between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The crisis had led to divisions within the Assembly and stalled executive activities.
The dispute was eventually addressed following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who brokered peace between the feuding camps.
His involvement also led to the withdrawal of impeachment proceedings earlier initiated against the governor and his deputy by lawmakers aligned with Wike.
More nominees are expected to be forwarded to the Assembly in the coming days, as Rivers State has 23 local government areas and requires a full complement of commissioners for effective administration.
