At least four persons have been confirmed dead, following an attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Local sources said the attack, which occurred on Saturday evening, threw the community into panic and confusion, as gunmen stormed the area.
Residents reported that four lifeless bodies had been recovered as at the time of filing this report.
One victim was said to have survived the attack, but remains unconscious, while the whereabouts of several others are still unknown, raising fears that the death toll may increase.
Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene, with many residents fleeing into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities for safety.
Residents said search efforts are ongoing as families await updates on those still missing.
Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy as the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet is yet to issue an official statement.
