The leadership of the Accord Party has dismissed a protest staged at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, insisting there was no faction or leadership crisis within the party.
In a press statement signed by the party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbuden, Accord described the demonstration allegedly led by former 2023 presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, as a “poorly scripted show” that did not emanate from the party.
The party said Imumolen, whom it described as an expelled member, had sought recognition as chairman of Accord during the protest based on what it called an “imaginary court order,” stressing that no valid court judgment exists in his favour.
According to the statement, the ex parte order Imumolen reportedly relied on was obtained in August 2024 but was vacated by the FCT High Court in September of the same year. Accord added that subsequent legal proceedings culminated in a 17 July 2025 ruling in which Justice F.A. Aliyu struck out the suit for lack of jurisdiction, declaring the matter a non-justiciable intra-party leadership dispute.
The party argued that the ruling effectively ended Imumolen’s claim to the party’s leadership and reaffirmed that members remain united behind Mgbuden as the authentic national chairman.
Accord also dissociated itself from the protest at INEC, maintaining that it was Imumolen’s personal action and not sanctioned by the party.
The party urged Nigerians, particularly intending aspirants seeking to contest elections on its platform, not to be misled by what it called attempts to create a false impression of internal division.
Reaffirming its readiness for the coming electoral cycle, Accord said it remains focused on the governorship elections in Ekiti State and Osun State, as well as preparations for the 2027 Nigerian general election.
The party noted that, as the ruling party in Osun State, it is committed to delivering democratic dividends and expanding its nationwide support base.
Describing itself as “the most peaceful party in Nigeria” and “the fastest growing political party in the country,” Accord said it remains united and committed to building a prosperous democratic future.
