ANRML Commissions 4 Borewells In 3 Kaduna Communities

The African Natural Resources and Mines Limited (ANRML) has commissioned four borewells in Gujeni, Babu and Chakwama communities of Kargarko local government area of Kaduna State.

While commissioning the projects in Gujeni, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, said the project was a clear demonstration of the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the mining activities translate to tangible socio-economic benefits for the communities.

The Minister, who was represented by the Director, Mines Environmental Compliance (MEC) Department, Dr Vivian Okono, said through the Community Development Agreement, “African Natural Resources and Mines Limited (ANRML) has demonstrated that development is more meaningful, when it directly impacts on the lives of the host community.”

She further said: “This action demonstrates corporate responsibility, compliance with statutory environmental and social obligations, and a commitment to sustainable mining activities. By investing in solar power technology borewells, this initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach that embraces sustainability, reduces environmental impact, and ensures long-term functionality. I wish to commend African Natural Resources and Mines Limited for fulfilling this important obligation under the Community Development Agreement (CDA) framework.”

In his goodwill message, representative of the Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources and Head, Kaduna Mining Company, Caleb Solomon, said the provision of water is key in every community.

“As an environmental health officer, when you don’t have good water, definitely you have issues. So when you provide very potable water to communities, you have done well and you are helping the community to live healthily. I want to specially congratulate African Natural Resources and Mines Limited, for this effort and the commissioning of this project.

“Kaduna State government is also doing a lot in terms of provision of water supply. So, whosoever comes in to supplement our effort, I think such a person would be highly welcomed because we know the importance of this project.”

The Group Mining Head for African Industries Group and representative of African Natural Resources and Mines Limited, Mr. Partha Ghosh, said the initiative reflects the company’s strong commitment to sustainability and long-term community development.

“We have commissioned four solar-powered bore wells, one in Gujeni, one in Babu and two in Chakwama community, by harnessing solar energy, these systems eliminate the dependence on grid electricity or fuel-powered generators, thereby reducing operational costs and ensuring a more reliable and environmental-friendly water supply.

“Most importantly, they provide uninterrupted access to safe and clean drinking water. At ANRML, we always place a high value on inclusiveness and remain committed to creating a clean, safe and healthy environment for all our host communities. We believe that development must be shared, responsible and beneficial to everyone,” he stated.

The CEO of ANRML, Mr. Anand Dubey, was delighted and spoke about the great hospitality of the community, saying; “We respectfully seek the continued cooperation and support of our host communities in safeguarding these shared projects. We are always thankful for the great cooperation and the strong relationship that we have built with our host communities. We encourage the good and great people of Gujeni and Chakwama communities to take full ownership of these projects by maintaining them properly, using them responsibly and safeguarding them for future generations.”

The chairman of Kargarko local government area, Hon. Muyideen Abdullahi, who was represented by the Secretary of the Local Government Council, Hon. Musa Zakwai, said though the provision of some of the infrastructure was their primary responsibility, they were grateful to ANRML for providing the borewells to their communities.

His royal Highness, the pioneer chief of Dnata Kingdom in Kagarko local government area of the State, Engr. James Bitrus, said a committee should be set up in all the four communities to take care of the boreholes and if anything happens to them, the district head will be held responsible.

He thanked ANRML and urged them to continue with the good work, adding that in future, they desire them to do more, like provision of electricity, road construction and more borewells in the communities.

The Women Leader, Babu community, Nancy Dominic, had this to say: “We say a big thank you to ANRML, we thank you for the water you have provided for us. We have suffered a lot to get clean drinking water, now we have it. This will really help us. We are hopeful you will still provide more for us as our community is very big.”

The Village head of Angwan Gora of Chakwama community, Yakubu Gajere, expressed his gratitude to the company. “We are grateful for this borewells that was provided for our community. May God bless ANRML. I want to thank the company for providing us this clean drinking water, we will maintain it and keep it so it can serve our community.”

The State Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency
(NESREA), Mr. Dangeri Emmanuel, congratulated the company as well as the community on the achievement.

He said: “Each time we visit the company, we emphasise on what should be done for the community. As the borewells are provided, we desire you to provide more facilities for them in future, and from our discussion with the company, Gujeni community will receive much cleaner energy. Before now, the air has been polluted but steps are being taken by the company in partnership with NESREA to make sure you have much cleaner energy.”

The Chairman of Stakeholders Committee of Gujeni Community, Rev Marcus Dada, thanked the company for being committed to its Corporate Social Responsibility to the community.

“I want to appreciate God for the successful completion of this project. We are truly grateful to ANRML for their kind gesture, and we promise to take care of it,” Dada said.
