At least 10 people were wounded in a shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on Thursday, local police chief T.J. Morse said.
According to the local ABC News affiliate, WBRZ2, citing Morse, two people sustained “significant trauma and required surgery.”
The attack occured at approximately 2 p.m. near the food court in the mall, city police said.
“It does not appear to be a random act of violence,” Morse said, according to the outlet. “Two groups of people got into an argument at the food court and started shooting at each other.”
The mall was closed, and Baton Rouge General Hospital, located across the street, was put on lockdown, according to WBRZ2.
The shooter remains at large, another ABC affiliate, ABC30, reported.
“I am aware of the active shooter scene at the Mall of Louisiana,” Governor Jeff Landry wrote on X/Twitter.
“I am in coordination with law enforcement, and we will update as we know more. Please avoid the area. Sharon and I are praying for those affected and are grateful for a quick response by our law enforcement officials.”
