The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, has flagged off the measurement camp exercise to distribute 400 free artificial limbs to registered indigent amputees in Benue State.
Speaking during the event held at the hospital, BSUTH Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, commended Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for his special interest in the health sector.
Hwande urged the amputees who were unable to register earlier to take advantage of the ongoing limb measurement exercise.
In a statement issued by BSUTH Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Tsenzughul Moses, the CMD said the hospital was committed to expanding access to healthcare support services for vulnerable groups.
He said the BSUTH Cares Foundation was willing to provide more limbs than the number of registered amputees.
Hwande assured that the initiative would become an annual programme until the use of crutches is drastically reduced in the state.
In his remarks, the Director General, Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, Aondoaseer Leonard Viashima, said the Foundation also planned to provide eye care services to over 1,500 persons.
