Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has opened up on his post-removal relationship with ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, revealing that their bond remained intact despite his dismissal from office.
Speaking in a video shared by Channels Television, Lawal recounted how he continued visiting the Presidential Villa even after leaving his role as SGF — but under noticeably different circumstances.
According to him, after his removal, he returned his official access pass, which previously granted him unrestricted entry into the Villa. Subsequently, each visit required him to obtain and wear a visitor’s tag at the gate.
However, Lawal disclosed that Buhari strongly disliked seeing him in that position.
> “Whenever he invited me, I would go. But at the gate, they would give me a visitor’s tag. Buhari hated seeing that thing on me,” Lawal said.
He added that during one of such visits, the former president reacted visibly, questioning why he was wearing the tag and expressing displeasure over the situation.
In a decisive moment, Lawal said Buhari reportedly instructed security officials to restore his access privileges, effectively ending the need for the visitor identification whenever he came to the Villa.
The revelation offers a rare glimpse into the personal dynamics between the two men, suggesting that beyond official decisions, their relationship retained a level of familiarity and goodwill even after Lawal’s controversial exit from government.
